BBC Worldwide, which operates the commercial end of the UK’s national broadcaster, will make parts of its entertainment and factual programming available on the site. Amazon has already announced that Doctor Who, Life on Mars, Spooks, and the epic Planet Earth will be coming to the site. ITV will be launching with Inspector Morse, Cold Feet, and Secret Diary of a Call Girl available.
As you’d expect both ITV and BBC said they are delighted that LOVEFiLM’s platform will bring more viewers to their content; they’ll be glad of the additional revenue the partnership will bring. LOVEFiLM has been particularly active in the past year. In December they signed a content deal with Sony and launched the service on Xbox Live – which joined Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Apple’s iPad which already had access to LOVEFiLM.
BBC Worldwide’s Head of UK and Ireland Sales & Distribution, Lisa Rousseau, said: “We’ve had a content partnership with LOVEFiLM for several years now and it’s great to see this evolve digitally. We’re delighted to give LOVEFiLM’s subscribers the opportunity to instantly watch their favourite British shows, wherever and whenever they wish, alongside a diverse range of great programmes and films.”
